Forensic officers were continuing to comb the site in Durikai State Forest, off the Cunningham Highway, west of the Scenic Rim, on Tuesday.

“Forensic officers believe [the remains] have been there for some time,” a police spokesman said.

The remains will be sent for forensic testing and analysis in the hope of identifying the deceased.

The forest is about 30 kilometres west of Warwick.

Sections of the forest are used for gold fossicking.

Vehicles are restricted to formed roads and tracks.

There are no facilities in the forest and camping is not allowed.
